The City of Ottawa is still working on developing a Climate Resiliency Strategy to guide how Ottawa can prepare for and respond to the anticipated impacts of climate change. We are now expecting the strategy in 2025. Ottawa is anticipated to become much warmer and wetter over the coming decades, with more extreme heat days, heavy rain, flooding and extreme weather events including wind and ice storms.

This is especially a great opportunity to share you feedback with the City on ways to address risks for basement flooding. This could include the City providing more information and resources to residents on flooding precautions, improving warning systems for heavy rainfalls, expanding incentives for homeowners to adopt building retrofits like back-flow valves, and increasing opportunities for nature-based solutions that support neighbourhoods in reducing stormwater run-off.
