Shifana uses her technical expertise to advance local climate action and the clean energy transition. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in electrical Engineering and brings over three years of international experience in energy efficiency, project coordination, and operational safety. Her professional background includes implementing industrial energy-saving initiatives that achieved substantial reductions in consumption and significant annual cost savings.

Committed to staying at the forefront of sustainable technology, Shifana recently completed the Green Building and Retrofitting program at Assiniboine College. Her training focused on building science, net-zero principles and sustainable construction practices. She further applied these skills as a Building Decarbonization Research Analyst with Toronto Region and Conservation Authority, conducting technical research on low-carbon materials and renewable energy systems including heat pumps and solar PV to support Canada’s 2030 climate targets.

She has been a familiar face in the CAFES network even before joining the staff. She previously collaborated with the organization to lead the “From Waste to Watts” community energy-saving workshop as part of the United Nations Association in Canada’s Eco Clubs program. Her dedication to environmental stewardship is also reflected in her volunteer work with the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS) Ottawa Valley, Engineers Without Borders Canada, and Invasives Canada.

Shifana is passionate about energy literacy and translating complex technical research into accessible, neighborhood level solutions. She is dedicated to fostering community resilience and helping Ottawa residents transition to a more sustainable, energy efficient future.
