CAFES at the River Ward and Centretown Earth Day Events

On Saturday April 18, CAFES was out in the community for Earth Day, joining two local celebrations across the city: the Centretown annual Earth Day Festival at Dundonald Park and the the River Ward Earth Day Event at the Hunt Club Riverside Park Community Centre.

We had a table at the Centretown Earth Day event, connecting with residents and sharing information about our work on clean energy and climate action in Ottawa. We are grateful to the Centretown Community Association and the Centretown Community Health Centre for organizing this event and having us table at this event.

In River Ward, CAFES had a table at the lively celebration outside the Hunt Club Riverside Park Community Centre. With support from Councillor Riley Brockington, we also organized a well-attended Invasive Plant Species workshop. Local experts – Deb Doherty, Christina Keys, Mireille Trent, Sharon Boddy and Iola Price took the floor to cover everything residents needed to know about invasive plants in the Ottawa area: how to identify the key species of concern, how to get involved in removal efforts in your community or on your own property, and how to replace invasive plants with native perennial and pollinator-friendly plants that support local biodiversity. The session wrapped up with a Q&A, and participants left with helpful resources to take home.

We’re grateful to both organizing teams for having us, and we look forward to more opportunities to get out into the community throughout the year!
