On December 20th, 2022, we launched a Climate Action Survey to learn about what Ottawa residents know and think about individual and collective climate actions. We developed this pilot survey with the help of a Carleton practicum student. We received 337 responses, with the following highlights:
- The vast majority of respondents are concerned about climate change, and feel the city of Ottawa should be doing more to address it. Most respondents feel we all have a role to play in tackling climate change.
- Top individual actions that respondents highlighted were sustainable purchasing habits, using sustainable forms of transportation, and calling on decision makers to take action.
- Top city-level actions were enhancing and protecting greenspace, expanding and subsidising sustainable transit and preventing urban sprawl.
- Respondents are interested in participating in many forms of collective climate action, especially participating in neighbourhood projects.
