CAFES will be hosting our third annual Mother's Day tree initiative on Sunday May 11th from 9:30am - 12:00pm at Laroche Park in Mechanicsville, in partnership with the Mechanicsville Community Association. The purpose of this annual event is to increase backyard planting and overall tree canopy by supporting kids and families in gifting a tree to their parent for Mother's Day. Trees are intended to be planted in the urban neighbourhoods of Ottawa to ensure we are increasing tree canopy where it is especially needed.
You can pre-order your tree on the CAFES website and pick it up on the morning of May 11th at 51 Stonehurst Avenue in Laroche Park. Planting instructions will be provided with each tree, and you are welcome to speak to us about best planting, watering and care practices. We have a wide variety of native species this year including Silver Maple, Yellow and Paper Birch, Red and White Pine, Spruce, Cedar, Pin Cherry, Butternut, Pussy Willow, and McIntosh Apple. All trees are potted in 1-2 gallon containers.
