CAFES is pleased to be organizing another year of the annual Carleton University Community Engagement Project with a 2nd year Sociology-Anthropology class! This year’s theme will be on waste reduction. We are looking for 6 Community Associations or Organizations to volunteer to work with student groups between September – November 2026 to support them in creating community-based environmental projects on waste reduction strategies. This project is held annually to match students up with community volunteers to guide them in experiencing community engagement in a ‘real world’ setting. If your Community Association/Organization would like to express interest to participate (see link below) please do so by August 7th.
This year, the class will be on Thursdays from 2:30 – 5pm starting on September 10 and will go until late November / early December. CA representatives will be expected to attend the second half of each class from approximately 3:30-5pm to work with their students.

Week 1 – Thursday, September 10
- Course introduction by the instructor
- CAFES and CAs introduce themselves
- Formation of project groups
Week 2 – Thursday, September 17
- First half: Introduction to Community Engagement
- Second half: Time for CAFES and CAs to engage with the project groups and coordinate neighbourhood tours
Week 3 – Thursday, September 24
- Guided neighbourhood walking tour with a Community Association / Organization representative (3 – 5:00 pm)
