Climate Fresk Workshop
Climate Fresk Workshop
- When:
- 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm
- Where:
- Dovercourt Recreation Centre, 411 Dovercourt Ave, Ottawa, ON K2A 0S9, Canada
- Description:
-
The first two general-public Climate Fresk workshops of the Fall season have been scheduled @ Dovercourt.
You can choose from: Thursday Sept 19 or Wednesday Oct 02. The workshops run from 5:30 to 8:30 PM and are for ages 17+
While more detailed information, including registration, is available at:
http://www.dovercourt.org/community/events-at-dovercourt/
here's a quick summary:
You can’t fix what you don’t understand.
As humanity is faced with unprecedented challenges, “Climate Fresk” is a citizens’ workshop that aims to raise awareness and understanding about climate change, and therefore to encourage positive actions at the personal and collective level.
Conceived in France and based on the science of the IPCC’s 6th Assessment Report (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change), the workshop lets participants first engage in the discovery of the causes and consequences of climate change and then engage in a creative group discussion of the actions one might take to combat climate change. It gives the opportunity to learn a lot in a short period of time and is meant for both novices and experts. While relatively new to Ottawa, Climate Fresk workshops have been tremendously successful globally. More than 1.+ million people worldwide have participated in the workshop, and 80,000+ have gone on to become trained facilitators. Fresk workshops have been run in over 162 countries in 45 languages.
In just 3-hours, the workshop calls on participants’ collective and creative intelligence to identify the cause-effect relationships between different components of climate change. This is done so through the placing and organizing of 42 Fresk cards on the table. The Fresk is revealed once all 42 cards have been positioned. The workshop then ends with a substantive and engaging group exploration of the suite of actions that can be taken to combat climate change.
To maximize individual opportunities for engagement, each table will be limited to a maximum of 7 participants and will be assigned a dedicated facilitator.

Join MMLT on Saturday, October 5th (rain date, Oct 6th) for our annual Fall Colours Walk at Blueberry Mountain. Each year, Howard Clifford and his family generously host this special fundraising day to support MMLT and the vital conservation efforts we undertake in the Mississippi-Madawaska region. This year, we have a special goal of raising funds to help protect Chatson Woods Nature Reserve which is adjacent to our Rose Hill Nature Reserve.
Feel free to stop by anytime between 🍁10 am and 2 pm🍁 to walk the trails, ascend Blueberry Mountain, and immerse yourself in the glorious fall colours at this beloved fall destination. Blueberry Mountain has earned its reputation as one of the Seven Wonders of Lanark County, and once you see the view, you’ll understand why!
MMLT staff, directors, and volunteers will be on-site throughout the day, ready to answer your questions. Whether you’re curious about the land trust’s ongoing projects, migratory birds, or unique geological features, our experts will be delighted to share their knowledge and connect with you. 🍂
We also invite you to pause at the Circle of Gratitude along the Blueberry Mountain trail, where a series of posts and plaques honour MMLT’s generous and dedicated supporters.

2 Crises | 2 Opportunities | 1 Day CHALLENGE ACCEPTED
Climate change is the crisis of our lifetimes. Solving it—and getting the solutions right—is an unparalleled opportunity for our community to thrive and businesses to prosper. Affordable housing is the crisis of the moment. Solving it—while leaving no one behind—is a huge opportunity to innovate, collaborate, and build community cohesion and trust. What if the quickest, best way to solve both of these tough challenges is to solve them together?
ON OCTOBER 9 AT BAYVIEW YARDS, WE’RE GOING TO FIND OUT.
The Ottawa Climate Action Fund (OCAF) is hosting the Ottawa Climate-Economy Opportunities Summit as a catalyst for the ambitious, achievable initiatives that will help our community solve housing supply and affordability through a climate lens Through the spring and summer, OCAF convened three sector sounding boards on buildings & energy, infill & neighbourhoods, and technology & entrepreneurship.
With their help, we’ve come up with five action opportunities that will help Ottawa move quickly and decisively on decarbonization, local resilience, and housing supply and affordability, at the scale we need to make a difference.
- Public Land for New Housing: Identifying parcels of surplus land that can be deployed quickly to deliver more affordable, low-carbon/net-zero new housing
- Reno-Protection: Public-private collaboration to acquire older apartment buildings for deep energy retrofits while permanently protecting their affordability
- Gentle Density Accelerator: Discovering how to house more people on under-utilized residential lots (secondary suites, coach/ADUs, duplexes, multiplexes...) while tackling neighbourhoods’ carbon footprint
- Energy Resilience Districts: Looking beyond the building at how technology can deliver deep energy efficiency, onsite renewable power, energy storage, and district energy solutions in new developments
- Green Pipeline: Bringing together the investment opportunities (companies, projects), investors, finance mechanisms, and matchmaking services to accelerate the delivery of low-carbon, more affordable housing supply
We know we can only get this done with a whole-of-community approach, with businesses, governments and public agencies, and community groups all doing their part. By the end of this event, we’ll have a clear picture of how to turn a creative, complex discussion into action and results.
This event will succeed by bringing together a diverse group of experts, innovators, thinkers, and doers who are determined to make a difference. To complete the picture, we need you at the table. Register today, or contact us for more information.

- When:
- 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm
- Where:
- 380 Colonnade Dr, Kemptville, ON K0G 1J0, Canada
- Description:
-
Climate Café events are being held all over the world, as a way to provide opportunities for people to connect with their community about climate change. This gentle and supportive environment offers participants the chance to be heard and hear from others who may share similar concerns - a rare opportunity in our action-focused culture.
While we know that solutions to the climate crisis are urgently needed, a Climate Café is not about taking action. It is an opportunity to express and process the strong emotions that accompany this challenging time.
Many people experience isolation, despair, and exhaustion related to climate change. Reconnecting with community can address this.
This is a caring, informal, confidential space to connect with others who want to restore their strength to address the climate crisis. This event is for everyone, not just for those directly working in environmentalism. Recommended for ages 18+.
Facilitated by Sarah Tuck and Katie Nolan
