This Saturday May 30th from 2 – 4pm, CAFES and the Mechanicsville Community Association are holding a tree plant and maintenance day at our planting site near Tunney’s Pasture!
We have 20 new tree saplings that need to be planted, including beautiful Red and Silver Maples, Balsam Poplars, White Birch, and Nannyberries. We will be watering the existing trees that were planted in 2024 and 2025, and doing some site maintenance including weeding, trimming, and checking tree survival rates.
Thank you to those of you who have signed up already to help. We are still looking for a couple more volunteers. No tree planting experience is required – we are happy to help you learn! We will be outside the whole time in the field between Goldenrod Driveway and the Kitchi Zibi Parkway, at the North end of Tunney’s Pasture. Light refreshments and planting equipment will be provided. That said, if you have your own shovel and garden gloves, please bring along!
If interested in coming, please email Erica at eshardlow@cafesottawa.ca. See you there!
