This year, we are starting the Eastern Ottawa Urbanism Club, a dedicated time and place for east Ottawa residents who are interested in discussing how our community is built, how it moves, and how we can make our neighbourhoods more financially and socially resilient. Whether you’re a long-time advocate or just curious about why our streets look and feel the way they do, this is a low-pressure way to connect with others who care about the future of the east end.
Our primary way of keeping in touch is a weekly virtual roundtable meeting held during the Tuesday lunch hour (12:15 PM on Tuesday is tentative until we establish it works for people)—perfect for a quick mid-week check-in on any local projects and policy discussions. To keep things grounded in the real world and to get to know each other, we also aim to meet up in person for lunch or an evening drink and/or chat every 4 to 6 weeks.

What is a Climate Fresk?
The Climate Fresk is a nonprofit initiative founded in 2019 by Prof. Cédric Ringenbach. Its mission is to raise public awareness about climate change and empower people to take meaningful action.

3-hour workshop — simple, fun, visual, creative, and engaging.

Based on science — 42 cards that summarize findings from the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change).

Collaborative learning — participants co-create a “fresco” by connecting causes and consequences of climate change.

From insight to action — the second half explores the scale of the challenge and concrete solutions.
Global impact: Over 2.3+ million people have participated, with 100,000+ trained as facilitators. Workshops now run in 150+ countriesand 45+ languages.
Climate Fresk workshops are relatively new to Ottawa–Gatineau, and local organizers are building a broad-based program to match the format’s international success.

Climate adaptation does not happen in isolation, and neither can the solutions.
The final session brings the series together by focusing on multi-sectoral partnership in action. Building on the foundations of readiness and belonging, Session 4 explores how municipalities and partners can move beyond coordination to shared, cross-sector implementation.
Participants will be introduced to practical frameworks, including collective impact, systems mapping, and community benefits agreements. They will examine real-world examples of municipalities aligning climate adaptation with health, housing, and social services. The session concludes with a practical case example focused on designing a joint action plan with diverse partners, offering a concrete pathway from learning to action.
This session is about momentum - translating relationships, trust, and shared vision into coordinated action that delivers real outcomes for communities.

Reconciliation Through Art: Métis Workshop and Traditional Dance

This fall, Almonte will once again become a meeting place for art, culture, music and history as Reconciliation Through Art 2026 returns with an expanded four-day program marking the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
The festival opens on Sunday, September 27 from 2:30 - 4:30pm with a traditional Métis dance and family-friendly workshop at the Almonte Old Town Hall.
Join Riley McKenzie for a free lesson to learn Traditional Métis Dancing. Riley is from the Ottawa dance troupe, Prairie Fire. She uses dance and storytelling to share Indigenous traditions. Learn the history behind jigging and the basic steps to use with any fiddle tune. You’ll be able to apply your learning the following Friday (Oct. 2) when you come out to dance at our Metis Kitchen Party! Water and breaks will be provided. Donations welcome. Suitable to all folks aged 10 and up.

Whether you’re a long-time advocate or just curious about why our streets look and feel the way they do, this is a low-pressure way to connect with others who care about the future of the east end.
Our primary way of keeping in touch is a weekly virtual roundtable meeting held during the Tuesday lunch hour (12:15 PM on Tuesday is tentative until we establish it works for people)—perfect for a quick mid-week check-in on any local projects and policy discussions. To keep things grounded in the real world and to get to know each other, we also aim to meet up in person for lunch or an evening drink and/or chat every 4 to 6 weeks.
I would also invite you to share ongoing projects or issues that might be relevant to the group in The New Orleans Forum.

Reconciliation Through Art: Métis Kitchen Party

This fall, Almonte will once again become a meeting place for art, culture, music and history as Reconciliation Through Art 2026 returns with an expanded four-day program marking the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
On Friday, October 2, the festival moves into a celebratory mood with a Traditional Métis Kitchen Party at the North Lanark Agricultural Hall. Running from 6 p.m. until 11 p.m. or later, the evening combines food, music and dance in a celebration of Métis culture.
The evening begins with boulette y bang, a traditional meatball stew served with bannock, followed by a performance by the Edmonton Traditional Métis Dancers. Juno-nominated singer and songwriter Amanda Rheaume and the Mâmawin’towin Band will provide the music, joined by old-time fiddlers Jason Lepine and Lionel Desjarlais.
Guests can also enjoy jigging and line dancing before sampling the famous Bear Paws from the Frybread Queen.

This fall, Almonte will once again become a meeting place for art, culture, music and history as Reconciliation Through Art 2026 returns with an expanded four-day program marking the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
Saturday, October 3, turns the focus to Indigenous visual art and traditional craft. The Indigenous Art and Artisan Showcase runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Mississippi Valley Textile Museum, bringing together more than two dozen notable artists who will share their work, stories and techniques with visitors.
For the first time, Reconciliation Through Art will also offer hands-on opportunities for visitors to learn Indigenous beadwork and create their own porcupine quill earrings under the guidance of Knowledge Keeper Patsea Griffin. The Frybread Queen will also be open throughout the day.
The showcase provides an opportunity not only to see and purchase Indigenous artwork, but to meet artists and learn about the cultural knowledge and traditions behind their work. Visitors will have a chance to enter a raffle featuring gifts from exhibiting artists and local businesses.
General admission to the art showcase is FREE.

Reconciliation Through Art: Water Walk, Teachings and Film Screening

This fall, Almonte will once again become a meeting place for art, culture, music and history as Reconciliation Through Art 2026 returns with an expanded four-day program marking the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
Sunday, October 4, brings a full day of programming focused on Indigenous history, knowledge and remembrance.
The day begins with a Water Walk from 8 to 9 am, travelling from Almonte Old Town Hall to Metcalfe Geoheritage Park.
From 10 am - 3 pm, the focus shifts to Indigenous history and culture at the Mississippi Valley Textile Museum, where visitors can take part in teachings, presentations and storytelling. The program will include traditional drumming and jingle dancing, as well as opportunities to learn about the history of the Algonquins of Pikwàkanagàn First Nation and the Métis Nation of Ontario. The program will also include the perspectives of Residential School and 60s Scoop survivors, offering an opportunity for participants to engage with some of the difficult and deeply personal experiences that continue to shape conversations about reconciliation in Canada.
From 3 - 4:30pm, there will be a special screening of The Apology: A Search for Justice, followed by a talkback with Métis filmmaker Matt LeMay, CEO of Indigenous Geographic. LeMay’s film follows a history making delegation to Pope Francis and was produced after his film crew received exclusive access to document the delegation’s journey and its history.
Registration is required for the film screening and for selected history and culture sessions.

What is a Climate Fresk?
The Climate Fresk is a nonprofit initiative founded in 2019 by Prof. Cédric Ringenbach. Its mission is to raise public awareness about climate change and empower people to take meaningful action.

Based on science — 42 cards that summarize findings from the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change).

Collaborative learning — participants co-create a “fresco” by connecting causes and consequences of climate change.

From insight to action — the second half explores the scale of the challenge and concrete solutions.
Global impact: Over 2.3+ million people have participated, with 100,000+ trained as facilitators. Workshops now run in 150+ countriesand 45+ languages.
Climate Fresk workshops are relatively new to Ottawa–Gatineau, and local organizers are building a broad-based program to match the format’s international success.
