This past weekend, September 26-27 2026, CAFES held a series of nature walks all about fungi in partnership with Guin’s Funguides, OSEAN and the Hunt Club Community Association. We had an absolutely wonderful time walking through McCarthy Woods with three different groups of participants throughout the weekend, as Guin taught us all about the different species of fungi growing in the area including identification tips and how to ethically forage. We also shared with participants the importance of urban greenspaces like McCarthy Woods and the significant community advocacy efforts currently going on by OSEAN and Hunt Club CA to protect this critical greenspace from threats of development.
Guin Dickson, owner of Guin’s Funguides, is based in Ottawa and provides relaxed, guided experiences in the woods to learn the basics of mushrooms, flora and edibles.
