This Mother's Day weekend on May 11-12th, in partnership with Yasir Naqvi, MP for Ottawa Centre, Mechanicsville Community Association and Dalhousie Community Association, CAFES will be hosting our second annual school-based tree sapling give-away event to help increase Ottawa's urban tree canopy by encouraging backyard tree planting, care and education.
We will be promoting this event through schools in the Mechanicsville, Centretown West and Hintonburg neighbourhoods by handing out promotional postcards (see below), in order to support young students in gifting a tree to their Mom for Mother's Day. Families will be able to visit the CAFES website, select their tree species, and pick it up on the May 11-12th weekend.
While we are targeting elementary and middle school-aged students/families, all are welcome to order a tree sapling, while quantities last.
If you have a backyard at home and are interested in ordering a FREE tree sapling for Mother's Day, please visit our order page at https://cafesottawa.ca/mothersday to pre-order your tree! Tree orders will be available for pick-up outside Devonshire Community Public School on Saturday May 11th from 3-5pm, and Sunday May 12th from 9-11am.
In June, CAFES will also be organizing public tree planting in partnership with Yasir Naqvi, MP for Ottawa Centre, Mechanicsville Community Association, and Dalhousie Community Association, with the intention of increasing Ottawa's tree canopy through an equity lens: targeting neighbourhoods that are in most need of trees. Stay tuned for more details!
