Renewable Energy Petition Submitted to City

On February 4th, 2025, CAFES Board Member Sara Washburn marched into City Hall to officially submit the CAFES Petition on Renewable Energy! We collected over 900 signatures and the petition was acknowledged at the February 12th City Council meeting. A huge thank you to everyone who signed!

This petition began in 2024 and came in response to City Council pausing the siting of renewable energy projects in July 2023 - effectively banning renewable energy and energy storage projects in any zone of Ottawa. Our intent was to demonstrate community-wide support for the City of Ottawa to lift this ban, minimize delay and implement zoning and permitting regulations that allow rural, suburban and urban areas of Ottawa to benefit from renewable energy and energy storage projects.

Communities across North America and Europe have demonstrated that solar, wind and battery energy storage are viable, regulated, and safe technologies. We want our City to welcome and encourage the development of renewable energy and energy storage projects so as to enable Ottawans to benefit from energy affordability, increased energy security and community resilience.

Thank you to every single one of you who signed the petition and took action toward creating a sustainable future for us all.
