People in the Hunt Club Riverside area and beyond are rallying to oppose the Otto’s BMW request to the City of Ottawa to change the Zoning of this Red Pine Forest and pave the way for a parking lot.
Protestors are gathering weekday mornings at 8 AM and can be seen with their signs along Hunt Club road close to Paul Anka Drive. You can also see them every Saturday at 4pm, where they show up with guitars and their strong message that the limited green space in Ottawa must be protected. Come join them!
The neighbourhood came together on July 24th to sing and make a video in the woods of the Joni Mitchell song “Big Yellow Taxi” aka. “Paved Paradise put up a parking lot”. You can see the video here!
Save Hunt Club Forest is working together with various groups including Ecology Ottawa and others to protect this tall Red Pine Forest and it's inhabitants. The message is “We want Otto's BMW to withdraw their rezoning application set to be tabled at the City of Ottawa’s planning committee on September 9th”.
Along with the destruction of the forest, this development would also endanger the Rideau River waterway in the area. Save Hunt Club Forest is also in solidarity with the other protests looking to protect the limited fragile greenspaces in Ottawa, that include the following development proposals : Proposed Civic Hospital, Mer Bleue Bog / Brian Coburn Extension, Fisher Ave North, Mechanicsville.
