CAFES is thrilled to be starting a new Waste Reduction Hacks project with support from the City of Ottawa’s CEPGP program. This project will create a full series of short, practical sustainability tips — “waste hacks” — delivered by Ottawa youth and residents through social media posts including pictures, infographics and short videos. The content will show people easy, doable actions that save money, reduce waste, conserve energy, and lower their environmental footprint. The tone is upbeat and practical: not doom and gloom, but “here’s something you can actually do this week.”
On July 22, CAFES held our first session with youth – the Go Project summer camp and Ecology Ottawa’s EcoYouth program at the Orleans United Church – to gather content and shoot video clips! The camp participants did a fantastic job making creative videos showing off their go-to ways to produce less waste and adopt more eco-friendly habits.
We will be producing and distributing one to two social media posts or short videos per month from August through March each featuring local residents sharing practical sustainability tips. Stay tuned on our Instagram, Facebook, Bluesky and LinkedIn channels in the coming weeks to see what the youth had to say!
